Chainsaw Man Manga Review

Denji is a very poor person with an enormous debt left by his father. Together with his chainsaw devil pet named Pochita, Denji earns money by taking various odd jobs, hunting devils, and even selling some of his organs. Having a miserable life, Denji always dreaming of having a better, normal life. Very unfortunate for him, his loan sharks want more power and try to make a deal with a devil and ended up killing him. Pochita revived him by merging their body and thus Denji is reborn as the Chainsaw Man and took revenge on the devil and the loan sharks that killed him. Soon after, Denji is discovered by Makima, the professional Devil Hunters and offered two choices, be killed as a devil or be kept as a human. Denji chose the latter and his new life as a Devil Hunter began.

This manga is written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto (the author of Fire Punch) and published on December 3, 2018. So far the story is simple, easy to follow and pretty interesting. There’s a lot of fights as expected and funny moments too. Unlike many main protagonist in shounen manga, Denji does not have any noble ideal. His motivation to keep going is very simple and funny, which is good since it’s kinda refreshing. And since Denji has a simple mind, his interactions with other characters are very entertaining.

The art style is not to my liking but I am sure some people will find it good. The art is simple and kinda rough except for the fighting scenes where the art is more detailed.  The character designs is decent, but the devil designs is pretty well done and creative. Based on how far I read, don’t expect to find any funny or strange expressions or any cute elements because there isn’t any in this manga.

All in all, I think you should giving it shot. I believe that this manga has a lot of potential and I really have a high hopes for this one.
