Dr. Stone Manga Review

This time I will write a review about Dr. Stone manga that is very popular recently and there is even an anime adaptation that is expected to air in July this year. Dr. Stone manga is written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Boichi and has become a popular series on Weekly Shonen Jump. The story takes place on post-apocalyptic earth, thousands of years after humanity turned to stone.

Senkuu , Taiju, and Yuzuriha are an ordinary high school student when the disaster struck. Taiju just about to confess his love to Yuzuriha when suddenly a blinding flash of light turned all humanity to stone. Thousands of years have passed when Taiju finally broke free from the petrification and found himself on a brand new world where human civilization has been destroyed. After wandering around for a while, Taiju met with Senkuu who had broken free before him. Senkuu with his scientific brain and Taiju with his seemingly infinite stamina, they work together to find a way to revive all humans and build civilization from zero.

When I first read this manga, I was pretty sure that this manga would be axed. But as the story progresses, it became increasingly entertaining. This manga has a very unique and original story. It is very enjoyable to read about the characters interaction with each other and how Senkuu solved the problem by utilizing his science knowledge. I think the story and the science explanation are well written.

Apart from the antagonist though, I still do not see any major characters development so far. And also except for Senkuu, the role of each character is pretty much equal, so there are no other prominent character. But Boichi’s art really is amazing. It is absurdly detailed, beautiful, vivid and feels so majestic, especially in the double pages. The art is one of the strongest point of this manga.

Overall, I love this series and I think Dr. Stone is a very well done and worth reading. This manga has fair amount of comedy, adventure, and mystery. I highly recommend this manga, especially if you love science and beautiful art.
